To the west, the Black Hills frame the sky for incredible sunsets.  To the east, the rolling plains of the South Dakota prairie stretch as far as the eye can see.  This is the view from Creekside Estates, a new real estate development in Box Elder near Ellsworth Air Force Base on Radar Hill Road.  Creekside is an easy ten minute drive from downtown Rapid City and about five minutes from Rapid City Regional Airport.  The development is in the Douglas School District and bus service is available for Creekside students.
Ken and Jeri Skyberg have owned this pristine property on Box Elder Creek for over a decade.  The plan for the development was started several years ago, and sets aside approximately 140 acres for development with 150 plus large lots.  All of the lots have sewer, water, natural gas, cable, phone, and power underground. The streets have concrete curb and gutter, with an asphalt driving surface.  Builders are required to pour concrete sidewalks on all of the lots. Homes in Creekside start in the $150,000 range with established covenants to ensure a pleasant living environment.  All homes in the development must have a minimum of 1200 square feet on the main level and at least a two stall garage.
Landscaping was an important element in the planning and development of Creekside Estates. The Skybergs have planted thousands of trees on the property, and homeowners are required to plant at least three substantial trees on their property when their home is complete. The entire length on the west side of the residential property is a cedar fence. “I didn’t want the homeowners to install a variety of different fences along Radar Hill Road”, said Ken Skyberg, “so I decided to put in the cedar fence at my own expense for a clean and consistent look.
There will be no pre-manufactured or mobile homes in the development. Creekside covenants require that each home must be accented with brick, stucco or stone. The added cost is minimal and is outweighed by added curb appeal and resale value.
